THIS GRAND FINAL IS A PLATFORM TO PROMOTE UNITY IN DIVERSITY

Port Moresby, 22nd Sept 2022 – The Hela Wigmen Rugby League Club congratulates both the Kroton Hela Wigmen and Agmark Gurias for making the 2022 grand final. It has been a tough season for us with all quality teams competing. We thank Digicel and supporting sponsors for keeping the game alive.

We extend our gratitude to our sponsors, Kroton Limited, Ipwenz Construction and Hela Provincial Government for supporting us. A special thank you to all our faithful supporters throughout the country and in particular, the Hela Province. As we step into the grand final arena on Saturday, we will wear the Wigmen jersey with patriotism and respect carrying the legacy of our forefathers who walked and worked the length and breadth of this country as traders, labourers, and missionaries to build this country. We will carry the hope of our faithfuls on our shoulders for the entire 80 minutes. The Wigmen legacy must live on for generations to come.

We have players from all over PNG in our team. When they are in the field, they are all band of brothers, for one cause and that is to promote unity in diversity. This is the message we want to promote. Hela Province is a new province and cannot be built alone by one ethnicity but needs a united PNG to build our new province. This message is portrayed by the DNA of our team.

In our short Club history since proper inception in 2013, we have been to the grand final 4 times. Winning two; 2014 against Gurias and 2020 against Tigers and losing one to Tigers in 2019. We are fortunate to be in the Grand Final again in 2022. 4 grand finals in 10 years is a feat. We have consistently made the finals playoff since inception. We thank and pay tribute to all players and coaching staff, both past and present who have come through our system for making this happen. Grand Final is a rare opportunity that doesn’t come too often, and we will make this one count.

Saturday’s grand final is all about promoting unity in diversity in rugby league. Let’s celebrate rugby league and support two of our teams. All forms of violence, threats, and intimidation on and off the field should not happen. Kroton Hela Wigmen being in the grand final is an achievement already. Winning the cup will be a bonus. Let’s support both teams in the true spirit of rugby league and let rugby league be the winner this Saturday. Ends…/…
